Cristina Díaz and Yvonne Cavallé Reimers to headline local participation at the tournament
The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group, a brand-new WTA 125 event, has awarded one of its four main draw wildcards to Mallorcan player Cristina Díaz, who will play her first major international tournament at home, at the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça.
Díaz, who won the junior McTeen tournament organized by e|motion sports in 2020 during the ATP Mallorca Championships, is now set for a very special moment: “This is an incredible opportunity; I will be able to play in front of my family. Clay is also my favourite surface. I will give my very best during the tournament, and I hope that many local fans will come to support me and all the other next-generation players competing here.”
Alongside Cristina Díaz, wildcards have also been granted to Germany’s Julia Stusek, Noma Noha Akugue, and Mariella Thamm, regarded as some of the country’s brightest young prospects and members of the Porsche Talent Team.
The main draw will feature a strong international line-up led by France’s Elsa Jacquemot (No. 65), Roland Garros junior champion; Argentina’s Solana Sierra (No. 78), one of South America’s most promising players; and Egypt’s Mayar Sherif (No. 98), determined to return to the top level. Spanish fans can also look forward to seeing Leyre Romero Gormaz and Guiomar Maristany Zuleta de Reales in action.
In doubles, Mallorcan tennis will also shine through the participation of Yvonne Cavallé Reimers from Palma. A highly experienced doubles player with 32 ITF Women’s Tour titles to her name, Cavallé Reimers will bring additional prestige to the event while representing the local colors in this first edition.
The tournament will welcome an iconic ambassador: Argentine legend Gabriela Sabatini, who will bring prestige and inspiration to the inaugural edition. Sabatini will also take part in a celebrity padel event during the week at the Mallorca Country Club.
The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group will be held from October 4 to 12. Admission will be free on the opening weekend, inviting families, youngsters, and local fans to enjoy this new celebration of women’s tennis in Santa Ponça. From Monday onwards, tickets will be available at affordable prices, with additional VIP options.
The event, organized by e|motion group, is cofinanced by the Sustainable Tourism Tax Fund of the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca, and is supported by the City of Calvià.
