The Draw Ceremony kicks off the tournament

The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group officially began on Saturday with the Main Draw Ceremony at the Mallorca Country Club, marking the start of Calvià’s new WTA 125 event.

Germany’s Noma Noha Akugue took on the role of the “innocent hand” during the draw, which was conducted by WTA Supervisor Mariana Alves. Among those present were Tournament Director Niko Paunovic and Pilar Carbonell, Managing Director of e|motion Sports Spain.

The draw produced exciting matchups from the very first round. Spanish fans will enjoy a national clash between Guiomar Maristany and Irene Burillo. Noha Akugue herself will face Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, the tournament’s No. 4 seed.

The wildcards also learned their fate: Germany’s Mariella Thamm will open against top seed Mayar Sherif of Egypt, while compatriot Julia Stusek takes on Despina Papamichail of Greece.

Other notable names in the draw include Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek, Czech talent Sara Bejlek, Georgia’s Ekaterine Gorgodze, and local hope Cristina Díaz Adrover, who will begin her campaign against a qualifier.

With the draw set, main draw action begins this Sunday at both Santa Ponça and Magaluf.
