History

Since 2016, the exclusive Mallorca Country Club (Santa Ponça, Calvià) has successfully hosted both ATP and WTA tennis tournaments, unforgettable events due to their unique context and character. These competitions have placed the beautiful island of Mallorca at the center of the international tennis scene, attracting some of the world’s top players, including Novak Djokovic, Maria Sharapova, Daniil Medvedev, Garbiñe Muguruza, Dominic Thiem, Angelique Kerber, and Martina Hingis.

In June 2016, the first WTA 250 Mallorca Open was held, a tournament that continued until its last edition in 2019. Over its four editions, the Mallorca Open crowned top players such as Caroline Garcia, Anastasija Sevastova, Tatjana Maria, and Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, among others. It also featured participation from other Grand Slam champions.

After a year, tennis returned in 2021 with the exciting inaugural edition of the ATP 250 Mallorca Championships, a tournament that continues today, offering top-level grass-court tennis every June. The Mallorca Championships has crowned champions such as Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Christopher Eubanks, Alejandro Tabilo, and Tallon Griekspoor. The event has also delivered thrilling finals and historic moments, including Feliciano López’s farewell in 2023, Ben Shelton’s first match as a top 10 player, and the participation of other notable players who have left their mark on the tournament’s history.

In October 2025, women’s tennis returns to the island, this time on a different surface. For the first time, the Mallorca Country Club hosted a WTA 125 tournament on clay. The Mallorca Women's Championships is a unique tournament in the Balearic Islands, where 32 players and 8 doubles teams compete on clay courts for the title.

The first edition of the tournament welcomed Vanda Pharmaceuticals as title partner and ecotrans Group as presenting partner. The argentinian Solana Sierra was the winner in singles, and in doubles, the Czech Republic's Jesika Maleckova and Miriam Skoch won the title. The champions received their trophies from tennis legend Gabriela Sabatini, ambassador for the first edition of the tournament.

In 2026, we will return with even more strength and energy. From October 10 to 18, we will celebrate the second edition of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships.
