Cristina Díaz secures Wild Card for the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships
Calvià, 10 October 2026 – Local favourite Cristina Díaz has earned a place in the qualifying draw of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships after winning the Road to Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships, the pre-tournament event organised by e|motion Sports España.
The top seed from Mallorca secured the coveted wild card with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Isabel Adrover Gallego in Saturday's final in Magaluf. The Marratxí resident will now have the opportunity to compete in the WTA 125 tournament, staged from 10 to 18 October at the Magaluf Sports Centre.
Díaz's triumph marks a return to the event after she also competed in the 2025 edition thanks to a wild card. She now earns another chance to test herself against international competition in front of her home crowd.
Her participation adds to the local interest already generated by Mireia Sagristá Bermejo, who has also been awarded a wild card into the qualifying draw. The tournament will therefore feature two Mallorcan players in the singles competition from the opening days of the event.
Another local player, Yvonne Cavallé, will compete in the doubles draw alongside Brazilian Laura Pigossi, with their campaign set to begin on Wednesday 14 October. The presence of three Mallorcan representatives across the tournament provides a rare and significant opportunity for Balearic tennis to be showcased at a professional women's event on the island.
This year's edition will unfortunately be without defending champion Solana Sierra, who has withdrawn through injury ahead of the tournament. Despite her absence, the field remains highly competitive and includes Austrian Julia Grabher, Czech rising star Laura Samson, Germany's Noma Noha Akugue, Spain's Marina Bassols Ribera and Slovenia's Tamara Zidanšek, among other established and emerging names on the international circuit.
The official main draw ceremony will take place on Sunday, when the first-round matches and opening schedule will be confirmed. The draw will also determine the opening opponents and match times for the Spanish players competing in this year's tournament.
Former world No. 3 Gabriela Sabatini, the tournament ambassador, will once again be part of the event, which combines elite professional tennis with fan activities and a wide range of off-court experiences throughout the week.
Several of these activities will be hosted at Mallorca Country Club, home of the tournament's VIP programme, which includes tennis clinics, gastronomic experiences and a shuttle service connecting guests with the competition venue in Magaluf.
Qualifying action continues on Sunday 11 October, while main-draw play begins on Monday with the final round of qualifying and the opening singles matches. The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships final is scheduled for Sunday 18 October at 2:00 pm at the Magaluf Sports Centre.
The event is co-financed by the Sustainable Tourism Tax Fund of the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca, and is supported by the Calvià Town Hall.
