Sierra wins the Vanda Mallorca Women’s Championships

The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group(WTA 125) came to a close on Sunday after a day of dramatic weather contrasts – heavy morning rain and violent gusts of wind gave way to a bright and sunny afternoon in Santa Ponça.

Despite the delays, fans filled the Mallorca Country Club stands to enjoy a thrilling final that crowned Solana Sierra as champion of the tournament’s inaugural edition.

The Argentine top seed (No. 86 in the WTA Rankings) defeated Lola Radivojevic (SRB, No. 173) 6–3, 6–1 in a match interrupted by rain early in the first set, when Sierra led 4–2 (30–15). Play resumed at 3:00 p.m. under clear skies, with an enthusiastic crowd that included many Argentine supporters cheering passionately for their compatriot.

Sierra dominated the encounter with a powerful backhand, an aggressive return, and a reliable first serve, dictating the pace from the baseline. Radivojevic, who enjoyed an excellent week in Mallorca, fought valiantly but could not withstand Sierra’s consistency and intensity.

The champion received the trophy from her compatriot and tournament ambassador Gabriela Sabatini, alongside Marco Taboas, Managing Director of the Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca. Radivojevic was honoured by Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of e|motion group, and Javier Tascón, Deputy Mayor of Calvià.

Visibly emotional during the trophy ceremony, Sierra thanked her team and expressed her appreciation for the tournament atmosphere: “I’ve had a few tough weeks, so I want to thank my team for always being here for me. I’ve really enjoyed this tournament – having Gabriela here has been a great source of inspiration.”

The first edition of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group concludes with resounding success, reinforcing Mallorca Country Club and the municipality of Calvià as key destinations for international women’s tennis.
