Geerlings reaches Mallorca final and will play for the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships title
Ariana Geerlings will compete for the title at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships after defeating Malta's Francesca Curmi 6-2, 6-3 in Saturday's semi-finals. The Spaniard delivered another composed and assured performance, controlling the match from the baseline and confirming the excellent form she has shown throughout the week. Her victory guarantees Spanish representation in the final and gives one of the country's brightest young prospects the opportunity to challenge for the title on Sunday.
Geerlings will face Czech teenager Laura Samson, who battled past Slovenia's Tamara Zidanšek 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 in the second semi-final. Samson raced through the opening set before Zidanšek responded strongly to level the contest. The Czech regained control at key moments in the deciding set to book her place in the final. The championship match will feature two of the standout performers of the week and promises an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
