Geerlings stuns top seed Grabher as Cavallé Reimers reaches the Doubles Final at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships

Day five of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women's Championships delivered the biggest surprise of the tournament so far as Ariana Geerlings defeated top seed Julia Grabher, while Mallorcan player Yvonne Cavallé Reimers secured a place in the doubles final alongside Brazil's Laura Pigossi.

Geerlings produced an outstanding display to defeat the Austrian 7-6(4), 6-3, ending the tournament run of the No. 1 seed. The Spaniard remained composed throughout the contest and handled the key moments superbly to claim a landmark victory and book her place in the semi-finals.

In the other half of the draw, Malta's Francesca Curmi secured a semi-final berth with a hard-fought 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Bulgaria's Elizara Yaneva. After cruising through the opening set, Curmi was forced to withstand a strong response from her opponent before sealing victory in the decider. The Maltese player will now face Geerlings for a place in Sunday's final.

Second seed Laura Samson also advanced to the semi-finals after Spain's Andrea Lazaro Garcia was forced to retire through injury with the Czech leading 6-0. Lazaro Garcia, who had reached the quarter-finals following a demanding three-set victory over Nuria Brancaccio, was unable to continue and brought her tournament campaign to an unfortunate end.

In the resumption of the match suspended on Thursday due to fading light, Rebeka Masarova completed her victory over Ane Mintegi del Olmo. The Spaniard, who had forced a deciding set before play was halted, eventually went down 4-6, 7-6(5), 3-6 after a hard-fought contest spanning more than three hours across two days.

Later in the day, Tamara Zidansek claimed the final semi-final spot with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Rebeka Masarova. The Slovenian held off a strong fightback from her opponent to seal the win in three sets and book a semi-final showdown with second seed Laura Samson.

In the doubles draw, the biggest local story came courtesy of Yvonne Cavallé Reimers and Laura Pigossi, who defeated Germany's Noha Akugue and Joelle Steur 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 to reach the final. The Mallorcan will now have the chance to compete for the title in front of her home crowd in Magaluf against second seeds Lucija Ciric Bagaric and Angelica Moratelli.
