Bejlek and Radivojevic reach the quarterfinals on a windy day

A day of ever-changing weather — clouds, sunshine, and strong gusts of wind — defined Thursday’s action at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group (WTA 125). Players and fans experienced what felt like “four seasons in a single match”, yet tennis once again took center stage at the Mallorca Country Club.

In the opening match, fifth seed Sara Bejlek (CZE) delivered a strong performance to defeat her compatriot Aneta Kucmova (CZE) 6-2, 6-2, advancing to the quarterfinals.

The second match saw Serbia’s Lola Radivojevic continue her impressive run, beating Oleksandra Oliynykova (UKR) 6-3, 6-4. The wind played a decisive role in this encounter, forcing both players to constantly adjust their serves and control their strokes in a true test of focus and adaptability.

In doubles, Germany’s Noma Noha Akugue and Mariella Thamm advanced directly to the final after the withdrawal of Mayar Sherif (EGY) and Tamara Zidansek (SLO) due to injury. The young German pair, competing as wildcards, will play for the title on Saturday at the Mallorca Country Club against the Czech duo Jesika Maleckova / Miriam Skoch, who won their semifinal convincingly against Dalila Jakupovic / Nika Radisic 6-4, 6-0.

Friday’s schedule features the singles quarterfinals, including top seed Solana Sierra (ARG) and Spain’s Andrea Lázaro García, both aiming for a spot in the semifinals in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Santa Ponça.
