Strong wins from Sierra and Noha Akugue
A bright and sunny Monday provided the perfect setting for a full day of international tennis at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group. Both the Mallorca Country Club and the TC Magaluf enjoyed lively crowds as players from across the world competed for places in the round of 16.
Spanish players had plenty to celebrate. Lourdes Lázaro produced a dominant 6-3, 6-0 victory over Tamara Zidansek (SLO), while Guiomar Maristany Zuleta de Reales overcame compatriot Irene Burillo 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the next round.
Local favorite Cristina Díaz earned big applause from the home fans for her fighting spirit in a tight three-set battle against Aneta Kucmova (CZE). Despite pushing her opponent hard, the Mallorcan fell 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, leaving good impressions in her WTA main-draw debut.
Among the other standout performances, top seed Solana Sierra (ARG) confirmed her strong form with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Dalila Spiteri (ITA), while Noma Noha Akugue (GER) – who often trains at the Mallorca Country Club – delighted local fans with a confident 6-4, 6-1 victory over Panna Udvardy (HUN).
Over at TC Magaluf, Carole Monnet (FRA) beat Mona Barthel (GER) 6-1, 6-4, Teodora Kostovic (SRB) overcame Angelina Werner (GER) 6-3, 6-3, and Darja Semenistaja (LAT) advanced with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Yelyzaveta Kotliar (UKR).
