Gabriela Sabatini headlines the day in Mallorca

Under bright sunshine and a lively atmosphere, visitors of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group (WTA 125) experienced a special day with the presence of its ambassador, Gabriela Sabatini, Argentine tennis legend and global sports icon.

The former world No. 3 took part in a press conference at the Mallorca Country Club, joined by Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of e|motion group, organizers of the tournament.

Weindorfer expressed his pride in welcoming Sabatini to Mallorca: "It’s an honor to have Gabriela here. Her career and her attitude, both on and off the court, are inspiring. This weekend we’ll have a gala, a VIP padel event, and a tennis Pro-Am – a super weekend full of guests and members.”

Sabatini, smiling and approachable, spoke about her close connection to Mallorca, her view of today’s tennis, and her desire to support the next generation: “It’s a huge pleasure to be here. The atmosphere is beautiful, and Mallorca is a very special place for me. This tournament brings back so many memories from my early years – this is a stage where players have to fight hard and adapt as professionals.”

She also underlined the value of WTA 125 tournaments: “They’re fundamental. In Argentina, for many years we didn’t have events like this, and now we do. They offer players real chances to compete close to home and grow step by step.”

After the press conference, Sabatini received Honorary Membership of the Mallorca Country Club and enjoyed watching her compatriot Solana Sierra claim victory over Ekaterine Gorgodze, securing a spot in the semifinals. The Argentine legend greeted players, coaches, and guests in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
